Fire Barrier Maintenance Technician

Department: HAYNES Firestop
Location: Asheville, NC

Position Summary:

Inspect, install, and repair commercial door and firestop systems according to specific UL/FM assembly details and applicable NFPA and IBC/IFC code requirements. Assist the jobsite foreman with all physical aspects of each project including verbal communications with customers as needed.

Requirements:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid NC driver’s license.
  • Strong mechanical inclination and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in carpentry and drywall installation.
  • Experience with both powered and hand tools.
  • Experience with powered caulk dispensers and paint sprayers.
  • Experience with low voltage access control and automatic door systems is a plus.
  • Ability to navigate common blueprints and construction documents.
  • Ability to efficiently use computers, tablets, and other technology.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is a plus.
  • General building practice and commercial construction knowledge.
  • General understanding of tested and listed fire and smoke rated structures.
  • Must pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must have a positive and cooperative attitude and excellent attendance.
  • Must be able to communicate respectfully and professionally with fellow workers, other MEP tradesmen, inspectors, customers, and the public.
  • Properly use safety equipment and personal protective equipment.

  • Work is primarily performed both indoor and outdoor environments in all/extreme weather conditions.
  • This position requires physical activity including extended periods of standing and walking, frequent sitting, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping and climbing.
  • Requires the ability to frequently lift and/or carry materials and/or supplies and other materials weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasional lifting and/or carrying of materials and/or supplies weighing up to 150 lbs.
